Fine Asian Furniture & Art
Circa: Late-Qing (Qing dynasty 1644 - 1912 ce)
Wood: Probably elm
Region: Suzhou ??
Dimensions: 24.5”w x 40.5”h x 18”d
Condition: Very good
Comments: The broad and robust styling is characteristic of Northern China. These chairs possess a unique 'stance and attitude.’ The back splat is in three panels which is characteristic of Suzhou.
This pair of chairs has an seasoned, masculine sensibility. One can sense they would be most happy in a den where strong whiskey and cigars fill the air during late night discussions between honorable gentlemen.
