“Chinese painting is not a reproduction of a scene, rather the scene’s ‘idea.’ The artist reflects upon something. From this contemplation arises thoughts and feelings – perhaps difficult to express – and images are born. The artist’s task is to capture the outer form as well as the essence of these images.
